I am very touched and honored to have been nominated for the Liebster Blog Award by my fellow blogger Rabia at FairlyLiterary. These are the questions she wanted me to answer, so here goes.
1.) Why did or what made you decide to blog on the particular topics you chose? Would you ever consider other topics?
I have loved reading since I was a little girl, love cooking, love writing and love to eat. I needed a creative outlet during a rough time earlier in the year, as my job was very difficult for me and some events happened in my personal life that made me reevaluate many things. Reading and cooking have always been an escape for me, therapeutic, and I started noticing all the references to food in the various books I was reading. I thought “I could recreate that dish!” and the concept was born. I was also encouraged by my dear friend and mentor, Lisa Abeyta who blogs at MamaCEO and who is an inspiration to all who know her.
2.) If you collaborated with other bloggers who would it be and why?
I adore Luca Marchiori of Chestnuts and Truffles, and he was the first blog I followed and the first blogger whose recipe I used as a base for one of mine. He reciprocated in turn, and a literary and culinary friendship was born. I hope to travel to Italy someday and have a joint blog/cooking post with him.
3.) If you are a reader, what are your favorite genres? Reading not your thing? What are your favorite genre of film or favorite things to blog about?
I love fiction: literature, adventure, mysteries, fantasy and sci-fi, horror and of course, cookbooks. I don’t care for Westerns, but beyond that, I am open to most types of literature.
4.) If your blog had a playlist what would be included?
Sting, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Marvin Gaye, Earth Wind and Fire, Whiskey Town, Johnny Cash, Dido, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Emmylou Harris and Waylon Jennings.
5.) Are there any bloggers that inspired your own blog? (optional Why?)
Again, Luca Marchiori’s amazing blog Chestnuts and Truffles inspires me constantly, because he not only cooks, he travels and his love of his home country Italy makes me want to travel there, but also gives me a new perspective on my own country and exploring the culture, food and literature of the United States, as well as other places.
6.) Where do you see your blog going?
I hope to one day segue into a career that combines travel, cooking, reading and reviewing other places. But I cook and write out of a sheer love of both, and I am just happy that people can connect with what I write about. We all need to eat to nourish our bodies, but I think food nourishes the soul just as much. Books have always nourished my heart and mind, so to combine them both gives me great joy.
7.) Do you participate in blog memes or hashtag?
No, I’m still learning how to blog in general, but those are on my list of things to explore.
8.) If there’s a takeaway you want visitors to leave your blog with what is it?
That they see the beauty in literature and in food, and that their hearts, minds and souls are nourished by books and by cuisine, as much as their bodies are. I also hope to inspire people to read the books I blog about, and perhaps be inspired to try out their own versions of my recipes.
9.) Does your blog have a tagline? What is it & is there a reason behind why you chose it?
“Come for the books. Stay for the food.” 🙂 It seems to speak for itself.
10.) What’s the best & worst part (if applicable) to blogging?
It’s a discipline, and there are times when I flat out don’t want to do it. But I committed to myself when I started the blog that I would do it religiously, once a week. And guess what? The discipline keeps me inspired. Once I start to cook, I fall into the rhythm and I’m always glad I stuck to it.
11.) Are there any book/film/TV show or recipe you’d recommend right away?
I highly recommend Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children, and the two sequels. Such amazing books, well written, and the photographs are out of this world – sometimes literally!
