In a New York State of Mind

No blog post this week, as I am traveling back from New York City. I was fortunate enough to be allowed to attend an amazing digital publishing and marketing conference, which ties directly into the work I do in my day job, and was really one of the most dynamic and engaging conferences I’ve ever attended. In my free time, I also got to experience most of the most amazing parts of New York, including the food, of which you all know I am a great fan. Here are some pictures of the experiences, sites, and delicious food I got to experience while in the Big Apple. Hope you enjoy.

Brasserie Les Halles on Park Avenue, where the late, great and missed Anthony Bourdain got his start as a chef and writer. Part of my foodie pilgrimage.

A gorgeous statue and gown from the Heavenly Bodies Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Another stunning image from the Heavenly Bodies Exhibit.

Arancini with porcini and Fontina and chilled rosé at Eataly. Amazing food and grocery store.

Mott Street in Chinatown.

Vitello tonnato at Lidia Bastianich’s Felidia, one of the most amazing restaurants I’ve ever eaten in.

Some of the art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Lemon pistachio tart, tiramisu and prosecco in Little Italy.

Some of the many olive oils sold at Eataly.

A stained glass window in the medieval collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Vanilla and coffee panna cotta and tiramisu at Lidia Bastianich’s Felidia Restaurant.

Soup dumplings and vinegar sauce in Chinatown.

Times Square. It’s a zoo, but you should see it at least once.

    1. It really was the most amazing experience. I’m hoping to go back in a year to see the things I didn’t get to see this time around. But it was definitely one of the best times of my life.

    1. Thank you so much. I did indeed have a wonderful time. I got to attend a fantastic conference for work, and in my free time I got to have some great food and exploring experiences. And even better, the weather was gorgeous. It never got over 84 and pretty low humidity. I feel very fortunate that it worked out that way.

    1. It really was! On a professional level, the conference was mind-blowing, with presenters from CNN, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and other National and Global publications. Just amazing. And what I got to see and do in my free time was just as exciting.

      1. As my younger sister likes to say, don’t hate, appreciate! Seriously it was an amazing experience. I’m so grateful I work in an environment that allows me to attend something like this, and I’m also grateful that I had the extra free time to explore on my own and see it for myself.

      2. Speaking of traveling together in spirit, I think you need to plan a trip to New Mexico sometime soon. Don’t do it now, it’s far too hot and you delicate little Northern Canadians probably couldn’t handle it. LOL! But seriously, in the fall you should try and come down here. You could go to the world famous Balloon Fiesta!

      3. Oh my God! You have never heard of the world famous international balloon fiesta in Albuquerque? Google it immediately if not sooner! And yes, if you travel here for that you would be more than welcome to stay at my house. Plenty of room and I can cook and you can make drinks!

      4. I have two very dear friends that are balloonists, and though sadly they have moved out of town, I think they could probably hook me up with somebody who would put you and your beloved in a small basket going up in the air. Kind of gives new meaning to the mile high club doesn’t it? LOL

      5. That’s what I mean!! I don’t think anyone is getting too hot and heavy in front of the operator! … I think of all the people to get engaged in a hoot air balloon and it seems like a weird thing for a third party to be a part of! 😂

      6. Yeah, but you know nothing about it because you’ve never even heard about it until 20 minutes ago when I mentioned it. Only some people get engaged in a hot air balloon. It’s a little hokey. In fact that’s the kind of thing that would happen in a CHICK LIT BOOK!

      7. Yes but we’re the best. And seeing as you’ve never heard of it until 45 minutes ago, I strongly suggest you hit the homerun out of the ballpark on your first time. That’s just me though. 🙂

  1. Oh wow. I just love all your pics, Vanessa! Especially that last one with One World Trade Center in it. That’s stunning. I’m so jealous!! I’ve never been to NYC, but I know I will one day. Glad you enjoyed the conference and thanks for sharing all of these pics. The food is so enticing. ❤
