Another milestone has been reached with Food in Books! I have officially hit 700 followers and I am so appreciative and grateful! Thank you all for the support of my little ol’ blog. I started blogging in 2016 and it’s been both a much-needed creative outlet and a comfort during difficult times, like the one I’ve had recently. It means so much to know that you all support my writing and my vision and my passion for books and food. THANK YOU again from the bottom of my heart! To celebrate, I am hosting another book giveaway. If you want to enter, please comment below about what your ultimate “last supper” would be and why, and one random winner will be chosen in two weeks. The winner will win a hardback edition of one of my favorite food books My Last Supper: 50 Great Chefs and Their Final Meals.
As my main man Anthony Bourdain wrote the introduction and we are coming up on the one-year anniversary of his horrible suicide on June 8, I thought it was fitting to remember his legacy and humor by sharing this book with my followers. RIP, Tony.
For sure. Xoxo
So… I’m assuming we get to do this the Italian way, with several courses? Antipasto: Fried zucchini flowers to remind me of the days I started to learn how to garden and to cook. For the pasta dish, pappardelle with Bolognese ragu, to remind me of the lovely times I’ve spent with my children, who always requested this dish for their birthdays. Main course: a simple roasted chicken with asparagus to remind me that good food is simple food. Dessert: Cannoli with real Sicilian cannoli filling, to remind me of my heritage and the beautiful town of Ragusa, where my family is from.

Oh my gosh, what a fantastic book! My last meal would be a burrito smothered in green chili, the Denver/Colorado style, with a smattering of cheese and really good refried beans on the side. Or else Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and cream gravy. Guess I can’t decide if I’m an Iowa farm girl at heart or a Denver Foothills kind of gal! Either way is pure comfort food to me.

Congratulations and well deserved!
The rituals of death, last meals, spark so many thoughts and the question for me is how did we arrive at this moment – by inevitability or forced prescription? For those whose death is dictated and served by man-made Gods a last meal request is bestowed upon the doomed. I have read some of those requests and often wonder if anyone savored those meals. Requests from fried chicken to hot fudge sundaes have fallen from the lips of many, but I have thought carefully what my last meal would be, here it is:
One of Mom’s fresh hot tortillas slathered in real butter. Just caught grilled trout stuffed with green chile and onions. Garden picked green beans cooked in bacon and onions. My drink of choice the coldest Margarita made with fresh-squeezed lime juice and Don Julio’s Tequila!

It’s funny how much you and I think alike. One of the things I would have for my last meal would be one of my Nana’s homemade tortillas with butter. If you really think about it, food is part of every single ritual in our life, including death. I find it fascinating to think how we earmark certain events in our life by having the equivalent of a feast or meal. Thank you for your comment. It definitely made me think. And you’re entered into the book giveaway!

Congratulations on 700!!! My last meal would be nachos with pulled pork, jalapenos, radishes, tomatoes, onions, corn and cilantro. Oh, and half of a lime squirted on all of it. It’s a favorite meal I’ve shared with one of my favorite people in the world.

Okay I’ve sent you a message titled “From Sue Clancy and other Pasta Pages” – I titled my email that way because I was in the process of looking up pasta recipes when I saw your message. 😉 Thank you again! I’m so looking forward to seeing the book.

My meal would be a mix of my favourite cuisines: Polish – sour rye soup to start with, then Italian -seafood pasta, then French – Tarte Tatin. All washed down with English sparkling wine, Nyetimber.

A beautiful seafood stew with all my favorites: lobster, scallops, clams, mussels, shrimp, and some cod and red snapper thrown in for good measure, all nestled in a heavenly two-day, fennel and seafood broth and served with the world’s absolute best baguette and cultured butter. Oh, a glass of champagne on the side! I think I need lunch now…

Auguri 🎉! So many choices for a ‘last meal’. How about a whole ripe watermelon 🍉 (with seeds) and freshly filled cannoli with a bottle of Negroamaro 🍷. 😋 ciao, Cristina
