I’m Vanessa, and welcome to my blog. If you’re a fellow bookworm and foodie, you’ve come to the right place.
I really feel that cooking is an act of love, and as I have progressed with this blog, I’ve come to know myself in a way I hadn’t previously. I’ve opened my home, and heart, to many people in the process of cooking and writing, and it’s made me a better person for it.
As well, reading is something that is in my blood. I can’t imagine a world without books. Books have saved me so many times, have helped me travel, have expanded my worldview, and have often been a source of therapy and comfort.
Combining my two great loves of cooking and reading has inspired me to expand my own horizons, in both the books I read and the food I cook. I’m happy you’ve stopped by, and please check back each week to see the latest book and food combination. And feel free to send me your suggestions about books and the food described in them, and I’ll try them out!
Hi Vanessa, Me again. I commented above but forgot to give you my WordPress site address: https://joylennick.wordpress.com/ as I have written a few blogs on Spain you may like. Cheers! x

Hola, Good to’ meet’ you Vanessa. When I came across “The Shadow of the Wind” by the wonderful author Carlos Ruiz Zafon, I absolutely gobbled it up and have re-read it since. I love reading and found it to be really special. What a magician with words! Isabel Allende is another writer who involves cooking in her stories. She too is well worth searching out. Several years ago, there was a film called “Tom Jones” which also featured food in a sexy, humorous way. I am retired in Spain with my husband but have never come across “Bombas.” As my other half now does the cooking, I’ll urge him to get cracking! Many thanks for your interesting article. Muy bien. x.

Thank you so much and welcome to my blog. I’m glad you found it and That you are enjoying it. I lived in Spain myself many years ago and the food was absolutely amazing. I believe the Bombas are more closely linked with Barcelona so if you travel that way you might have more luck finding them. It’s possible they go by another name as well, it was just the reference to them in this book that inspired me to make this version. I also love the works of Isabel Allende, and last year blogged one of her nonfiction works Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses. Some very wonderful food references in that book as well.

What a wonderful combination and ‘scene.’ A winter’s day, a roaring fire, a good book, and a slice of that plum concoction with creme freche. Heaven! Thank you – I’m almost salivating…x

Thank you so much! That scenario you just painted does sound wonderful. I’ll have to try making the plum cake again in the Winter months.

What a great idea for a blog. You are writing about two of my favourite things – books and food! And you’re so right about Venice.

I love books and have loved books since I was a small child, I devour books and read any spare minute I have, that is when I am not baking or doing my Masters ( in order to become a librarian!) I found my love of cooking/ baking last year, now there is no stopping me. Looking forward to reading more of your blog.

you know, even though i am ‘following’ this blog, i am not getting emails of new posts regularly, which is why i haven’t commented. will catch up today or tomorrow. a lot of followers of my blog say the same thing – they don’t always get notified of new posts. hope all’s well!
cheers.

I’m glad you told me. I’ll see if maybe it’s a WordPress glitch. As always, thank you for the support.

speaking of loving books, you should think of turning the theme for this blog into a coffee-table book, with nice photographs. or at least pitching the idea somewhere. i could definitely see a market for it, as a gift book for literate foodies, etc.! keep it up!

I love, love, love books. My husband always gives me a funny look when I climb into bed with 5 books….I wish there was one extra day in the week just to sit back and read.
I will have a book review page on one of my blogs (beforemybaby) and will turn to you for inspiration! Keep up the great work.
